The Surat-Chennai Expressway is set to be a game-changer for travel, trade, and tourism across six states in India. Once fully operational, this project will dramatically reduce travel time, ease congestion, and open up new opportunities for local communities. Stretching across 1,271 kilometers, it is set to become the second-longest expressway in India, following only the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Currently under construction, this expressway will provide a high-speed, direct link between Surat in Gujarat and Chennai in Tamil Nadu, two of India’s most important economic and cultural hubs. Managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Surat-Chennai Expressway is designed as an eight-lane, access-controlled greenfield corridor. The project is expected to cost around INR 45,000 crore, reflecting the scale and ambition of the initiative. Construction is divided into 14 packages, and significant progress has already been made on several sections. One of these, Package IV, is reportedly nearing completion. The expressway is expected to be fully operational by 2027, marking a major milestone in India’s infrastructure development.

One of the standout features of this expressway is its commitment to environmental sustainability. The project will include tree plantations and green buffers along its route, helping to preserve the natural landscape and contribute to ecological balance.
