In 2024, Thailand hosted 158 international conventions, a notable increase from the 143 held in 2023. This surge propelled the country from the twenty-sixth to the twenty-fifth position globally. Within the Asia-Pacific region, Thailand secured fifth place, while also emerging as the number one destination in the Southeast Asian or ASEAN region.
Bangkok Leads the Charge with Historic Performance
Bangkok delivered a standout performance in 2024, hosting 115 international conventions. This accomplishment catapulted the Thai capital from fifteenth to seventh place in the global city rankings—a record high for the city. Regionally, Bangkok clinched third place in the Asia-Pacific and second within the ASEAN region.
Reinforcing Bangkok’s leadership status, global event technology firm Cvent also released its 2025 list of Top Meeting Destinations during IMEX Frankfurt. According to the rankings, Bangkok earned the second spot in the Asia-Pacific region, just behind Singapore. The Cvent results were based on more than eighteen billion US dollars of global sourcing and request-for-proposal (RFP) activity in 2024, including a record-setting sixteen and a half billion dollars sourced through the Cvent Supplier Network—one of the largest venue sourcing platforms in the world.
Unprecedented National Representation with 13 Thai Cities Ranked
Further amplifying Thailand’s success story, thirteen Thai cities were listed in the 2024 ICCA report—an all-time record for the country. Alongside Bangkok, the featured cities include Chiang Mai (twelve conventions), Pattaya (ten), Phuket (eight), Chon Buri (three), Chiang Rai (two), Pathum Thani (two), and several others including Hua Hin, Khon Kaen, Samui, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nonthaburi, and Pattani, each hosting at least one international convention.
This widespread recognition highlights Thailand’s growing capabilities across various regions in hosting high-level business events. It reflects not only the strength of its capital city but also the increasing appeal of secondary cities, which are now playing a crucial role in diversifying the country’s MICE portfelis.
A New Era for Thailand’s MICE Rūpniecība
Thailand’s record-setting achievements in the ICCA rankings and recognition from Cvent signal a new era for the nation’s convention and meetings industry. With robust infrastructure, dynamic city offerings, and government support, Thailand is well-positioned to sustain and elevate its standing on the global stage.
This landmark recognition is expected to boost the confidence of international event organizers, further attracting conferences, exhibitions, and incentive groups to Thai cities. Moreover, it reinforces the country’s strategic vision of becoming a premier hub for global business events in Asia.
Kopsavilkumā, Thailand’s stellar performance in the ICCA 2024 Rankings not only celebrates a national milestone but also sets a powerful precedent for future growth in the global meetings and conventions landscape.
