Apvienotās Karalistes valdība ir izsludinājusi steidzamu brīdinājumu saistībā ar seismisko aktivitāšu saasināšanos Santorini un Amorgosā, iesakot ceļotājiem drošības nolūkos izvairīties no augsta riska zonām.
The UK Foreign Office has issued a travel warning for Greece, advising caution in certain regions due to increased seismic activity. Travelers planning to visit the Mediterranean country are urged to avoid specific areas affected by natural hazards.
The warning highlights four regions where the risk is higher, including Santorini, Amorgos, and nearby islands, where numerous small tremors have been recorded. Local Greek authorities have provided guidance on how to prepare for potential earthquakes.
The UK Government recommends following the advice from the Greek Ministry of Civil Protection for areas such as Santorini (Thira), Anafi, Ios, and Amorgos, where seismic activity has been particularly intense.
For those staying indoors, it’s recommended to secure shelves and bookcases to walls, clear the area around doorways of tall furniture, and ensure that heavy items are placed on lower shelves—away from beds and sofas. Additionally, residents are advised to check that fuel tanks, heaters, and other large objects are properly anchored.
Safety measures also include identifying safe areas within the home, such as under sturdy tables or desks, away from windows, glass surfaces, and exterior walls. Ensuring that the electricity and gas systems are working properly, and informing family members about how to turn off utilities, is also crucial.
Finally, it is suggested that homes be equipped with a portable radio, flashlight, and first aid kit in case of emergencies.
